History

In the fall of 1946 the first school for Queen of Peace began receiving students. It consisted of two classrooms in an area adjoining the Church. This same area was used on occasions as a Parish recreation hall. The Sisters of the Precious Blood were engaged as teachers in the new school. The original enrollment was 60 pupils (40 pupils of Queen of Peace and 20 pupils form St. Aloysius, Shandon, Ohio). As the enrollment increase during the next two years, it became necessary to construct a larger school. Ground was broken for a separate school building on the Parish property, west of the Rectory, in October 1948.
The new school was substantially completed by February 1949, and was formally opened on February 27, 1949. The new building consisted of three classrooms, a large auditorium, and a basement cafeteria. The old classroom adjoining the Sacristy of the Church, was then used as a Parish Library and Information Center. When the new school was opened for classes in March 1949, there were 74 children of Queen of Peace, and 44 children from St. Aloysius, Shandon, Ohio in attendance, for a total of 118 children in the new school. Three Sisters of the Precious Blood formed the faculty. A fourth Sister was added to the faculty in the ensuing years, and with the opening of the school year in the fall of 1959, the first full time lay teacher was added to the faculty.
The building now known as the block building was built in 1954. It was converted to be used as classrooms in 1963, and was used until 2006. A new church was built in 1965, with a church hall/cafeteria underneath. The old church was converted and became the school's gymnasium. A new school was built in 1990. The school contains 8 classrooms, a library/computer lab, a staff workroom, a conference room, a nurse's office, a front office, and a principal's office. In January of 2006 a new edition was opened which includes a new gymnasium, music room, art room, preschool, kindergarten, computer/science lab, and staff workroom.
